Howey & Associates Insurance is one of the largest and well respected independent insurance agencies in Woodhaven, MI. Formerly known as Howey & Klann Agency, which was founded by Charles O. Howey in 1953. Over time Mr. Howey built up the agency’s reputation, along with his staff’s professional development to become a leading agency in Michigan. In 1992, Charles Howey retired, entrusting the agency’s future to his son, Charles (Skip) Howey, Jr., who has continued his father’s work passionately to ensure the agency holds a growth mindset for the industry, its partners, and team.
Where we are today.
In 1978, Skip joined the agency and has become the agency’s leading producer following his graduation from Western Michigan University. With his leadership, the team gained a new dimension of discipline and personal development, which he later applied to his sports and coaching pursuits. As a representative of the culture behind Howey & Associates Insurance, he also plays an active role among company partners and advisory councils, working continuously with the goal to provide superior coverage and service at competitive prices.
Our History
- 1953, Howey & Klann Agency was founded by Charles O. Howey.
- Charles Howey first began selling insurance and real estate in a small office in Riverview. Within a few years, he added a partner, Leslie Klann, and moved to a larger office in Trenton.
- Mr. Klann retired in 1965, and Mr. Howey began to develop the staff into licensed insurance agents. The agency saw impressive growth under Mr. Howey’s new strategies.
- In 1978 after his graduation from Western Michigan University, Charles O. (Skip) Howey, Jr., Mr. Howey’s son, had become the agency’s leading producer.
- Mr. Howey retired in 1992 and passed the agency on to Skip. Over the years, Skip has established operational philosophies, objectives, and values.
- Today, stable, steady growth has continued to be the pace for the agency. The staff has also grown to nine producers and a support staff of twenty-one.
- Together, the staff has pushed the agency forward to new levels of growth and profitability.
